SimSIC - "Computer Security and Cybercrime Symposium"
Lab UbiNET has organized since 2010 the "Computer Security and Cybercrime Symposium" (SimSIC).
This symposium aims to bring to the Polytechnic University of Beja, and to the city of Beja, timely debates on current Cybersecurity issues, inviting renowned entities and personalities in the addressed topics.
The event takes place every year in mid-May and spans 2 days. The first day is held in UPBeja's Main Auditorium in a conference setting, featuring lectures and thematic presentations. The second day takes place in the H2O Space at the School of Technology and Management (ESTIG), in a workshop environment with hacking and digital forensics demonstrations, vendor and cybersecurity company booths, and since 2018, a signature activity created by Lab UbiNET: a "Crime Scene Evidence Collection Simulation" known as "Crime House". In Crime House, multiple teams carry out search and seizure of digital evidence in a live arrest setting with cybercriminals instructed to challenge the teams. It is a unique exercise where strict Chain of Custody procedures must be followed, with teams evaluated by former inspectors of the Judicial Police.
Since its first edition, SimSIC has been broadcast live over the Internet, and since 2023, presentations delivered in foreign languages in the auditorium are translated in real-time to Portuguese on a large screen.
